Old Town is beautiful. The hostel .terrible decorations, The beautiful old building doesn't fit the modern minimalist style. It's affordable but cost little more than you pay for. Not as minimalist as implied by decor. The building is beautiful and location is worth it. It's mediocre. Kitchen and loundry are plus for functionality. Windows street view is another plus
Cute common areas, nice kitchen, helpful staff. Good location if you want to be in Gamla Stån, although it’s very touristy. My mixed 6-bed dorm was very small with minimal storage. Didn’t seem like there were quite enough bathrooms (toilets). Bathrooms had no paper towels or hand dryers??? I get that we’re supposed to use our towels, but we don’t have it with us if we’re coming or going. Have to put your sheet on your mattress AND put your duvet cover on yourself. They offer a laundry wash and fold service, which is convenient, but 300 SEK for it is *insane.*
Cozy hostel with well equipped kitchen and fridge. Very accommodating host. One caution, it is not accessible by taxi due to its interior location within Gamla Stan. About 500m travel on foot over cobble stone paths is needed, and this might be tough for some travelers. If you are backpacking or have a light hand carry, you should be fine.
Stayed at Castanea Hostel in Stockholm and overall had a good experience. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the old town, and the hostel was clean, cozy, and comfortable. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. My only issue was the extra charge for bed sheets. To be fair, it was clearly mentioned upfront, so there were no surprises. But after staying in a lot of hostels over the years, this is actually the first time I’ve come across a place charging separately for basic sheets and covers. I don't know whether this is common practice in Swedish hostels though. I completely understand charging extra for towels, but sheets, pillow covers, and mattress covers feel more like basic necessities than optional add-ons. In reality, almost everyone will end up paying for them anyway, because even if you bring your own sleeping bag, you still need pillow and mattress protection for hygiene reasons. What’s next, paying extra for the mattress too? Still, aside from that, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hostel overall.
I stayed at this hostel with my family, and I'm so glad I chose it based on the reviews. Highly recommended! The location is top-notch — right in the heart of the city center. It’s literally two steps away from the main square, yet surprisingly quiet as you can’t hear any street noise. The hostel is very clean, peaceful, and the staff is lovely. If you're visiting for sightseeing, this is a perfect and budget-friendly place to stay
