Phenomenal Vegan tasting menu, decent cocktails too & knowledgeable hostess!
The atmosphere was nice. We ordered the 8-course tasting menu (Avsmakningsmeny). Since I don’t eat red meat, they changed two dishes for both of us because they couldn’t adjust the menu for just one person. We booked the table through Live it, and the tasting menu was included there, but we had to pay separately for water and drinks, which were not included in the package. Our favorite dishes were the dumplings, Xiang Su Ya, Xiang Gu Chao Bai Cai, and Xiang Su Ya. However, since it was entirely the chef’s choice, we didn’t really feel much of a culinary “journey” through the menu! The restaurant tries to position itself as a luxury dining experience, but it felt more like a slightly more refined version of Pong, which makes sense since Waipo belongs to the same group. For dessert, we tried the ice cream, which was nothing special, and the mochi, which was good. We also ordered Lagavulin 16, but we were served Laphroaig 10 instead!! Overall, it was a good experience, but not something I would go back for again.
We came here for lunch based on a colleague recommendation, and since the restaurant’s name means “maternal grandma” in Chinese, we were expecting a warm, home-style meal. However, the food turned out to be quite fusion rather than traditional Chinese. Some menu items even included Japanese-style ramen. As for the dim sum, it’s better not to expect authentic Cantonese flavors like Din Tai Fung — they felt more like standard dumplings or even bread-like dishes. The food itself wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re specifically looking for authentic Chinese cuisine. The staff were friendly, but it was quite difficult to get their attention for orders or requests. It seemed like there weren’t enough staff members for how busy the dining area was. Overall, I’d recommend it for a casual lunch during a workday, but not for business meals or if you’re looking for a proper Chinese dining experience.
We went to Waipo on February 9th to celebrate my husband’s birthday and truly enjoyed the evening. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm, and the service was attentive throughout. The only small note would be the portion size of one tapa that comes in shells, which could be slightly more generous. Apart from that, everything was wonderful. The cocktails were enjoyable too.
It wasn't authentic gongbao chicken, but it was incredibly delicious. The mapo tofu was tasty too, but the dimsum was truly outstanding. It was chewy and fresh, like it made right then. Especially the mushroom dimsum- it had an incredibly premium flavor. The atmosphere feels clean and elegant like being at a fine dining restaurant. The price isn't cheap, but it was a very satisfying lunch. I'll definitely be back for dinner.
