Description
Start the day with pick up at the hotel, if located in central Stockholm.
First stop is the Army museum where we go back in time to the birth of the 'Allotment system', that provided the Swedish military with able bodied soldiers for hundreds of years. From room to room we will follow the enlisted men through times of peace and war.
The group then continues to a preserved soldiers cottage in an outdoor museum, updated to the standards of around 1850. The cottage was an important benefit of servicemen and gave the opportunity for poor young men to provide housing and income for a family of their own. In times of peace the soldier could spend their time farming and reporting to occasional exercise. But when march orders were given life could change in an instance.
It is then time to sit in for a class in a rural school from the late 19th century. Learn the subjects and the dicipline that formed these first generations of public mandatory schools around the country.
