One of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere, ambiance, and service were absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, the food was simply too salty. Every single dish was heavily seasoned, to the point where I couldn’t finish any of them. I’ve reviewed many restaurants over the years, and I rarely leave negative comments, but the food here was genuinely far too salty for my taste. If you enjoy bold, heavily seasoned flavors, you might actually like it😬
I tried not to take too many photos this time, so please excuse the limited visual evidence. Operakällaren is Operakällaren. Few restaurants have played such a defining role in shaping the standards of Swedish fine dining, and it continues to carry that legacy with confidence. The experience rarely ventures beyond what you would expect, though the beverage program, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, offers a welcome sense of creativity. Everything is executed with precision and restraint, delivering the kind of quiet satisfaction that Swedes might describe as lagom. The service is exceptional: attentive, polished, and warm without ever feeling intrusive. My only reservation is that a few fashionable ingredients appeared repeatedly throughout the menu, making some courses feel less distinctive than they could have been. Yes, there is a certain tourist appeal to the place, but never to a degree that distracts from the experience. Operakällaren remains a restaurant that understands exactly what it is, and delivers on that promise remarkably well.
A place where history sits in the walls, you can get a different setting, but not a better one. Everybody works in coordination, in harmony. You also get to sit for far longer than other restaurants, maybe because you need it in the tasting menu, but it is so nice not to have to rush your visit. The food is at the top of what can be done in a kitchen. A slight miss in one dish, or it would have been a clear 5 star. I am glad I got to experience it before the upcoming renovation, and who knows, after it might be even better...
Dined here a couple of nights ago and went à la carte; overall, a 10/10 experience. The only area that could use some improvement is the desserts. While the vanilla ice cream (the swan) was delicious, the swan itself tasted a bit off and somewhat bland. I had a similar impression of the chocolates served afterwards. That said, I’d still rate it a solid 5/5 overall. If someone from the restaurant would be so kind to let me know what tea i drank I’d really appreciate it as it was delicious!
