Description

The highlight of the tour is a visit to the City Hall (Stadshuset), venue of the annual Nobel Prize Banquet, where we enjoy a guided tour of the red brick structure. The fortress-like building is known for its tower topped with 3 golden crowns (the emblem of Sweden). Then continue to Gamla Stan (Old Town), founded in 1252, and enjoy a walk through the narrow cobbled streets, alleys, and medieval atmosphere of the 16th to 18th century. We stop by Stortorget (Great Square), home to the Nobel Museum and the Swedish Academy. Then, board a ferry (across the harbor) to Djurgarden, known as the city park and recreation centre. On the island, we visit the world-famous museum, the Vasamuseet. The Vasa, the flagship of the imperial navy, sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. Over three hundred years later, in 1961, it was finally salvaged from the bottom of the sea. Today, it is on exhibition in the museum and is considered the best-preserved warship from the 17th century. We conclude the tour with a drive to your hotel (or cruise terminal).
