Café Schweizer
Stockholm
Visit in the morning to enjoy a quieter atmosphere and the freshest pastries.
Café Schweizer, nestled in the historic district of Gamla Stan in Stockholm, offers a cozy atmosphere that blends Swedish tradition with a touch of global inspiration. Known as one of the last 'schweizeri', this café pays homage to a bygone era when small cafés also served alcohol. However, Café Schweizer now focuses on the rich tradition of 'fika', which is an essential part of Swedish culture involving coffee and cake.
The café's ambience is characterized by a charming mix of old-world charm and contemporary flair. Guests are welcomed into a warm and inviting space that feels both homey and uniquely Swedish. The décor accents reflect its historical backdrop, situated among the cobblestone streets and medieval architecture of Gamla Stan.
Café Schweizer offers a menu that includes a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and desserts, coupled with freshly brewed coffee and a selection of teas. Notably, the café places an emphasis on sourcing ingredients locally and seasonally, infusing their offerings with the essence of Sweden's diverse landscapes. This commitment ensures that menu items are not only flavorful but also sustainably produced.
Visitors can also enjoy the café's celebrated fresh juices, a perfect complement to the rich flavors of its baked goods. Whether stopping in for a classic Swedish cinnamon bun or a more substantial meal like the traditional smörgåstårta, each visit promises a delightful experience informed by both culinary skill and a strong sense of heritage.
Café Schweizer is ideally suited for both locals and tourists looking to experience authentic Swedish fika, as well as those simply seeking a comforting place to rest and recharge. Its location in the heart of one of Stockholm's most popular tourist areas makes it a convenient stop during a day of sightseeing, while its welcoming atmosphere ensures that every guest feels at home.

The orange juice was really tasty, and both the Princess Cake and apple strudel were delicious! 🍰🍎 The location is also great and very convenient. I chose this place because Lisa from BLACKPINK visited here, and I definitely wanted to try it for myself! 💕A lovely spot to visit while exploring Gamla Stan in Stockholm!
May your latte be served in a lovely bowl. 🥰 This type of latte needs a quiet corner to fully enjoy. While the shop is cute, it's incredibly busy and over stimulating (from the bright lighting, writing covering the walls to cramped space). The pistachio cake was a perfect pairing though.
A lovely café with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The cinnamon bun was absolutely delicious, and the selection of traditional Swedish pastries and desserts was impressive. Everything looked fresh and tempting. You can even see that the pastries are baked on-site, which adds to the experience. They also offer chai latte and a choice of different types of milk, which is always appreciated. Overall, a cozy place with great coffee, delicious pastries, and a welcoming atmosphere. I can highly recommend it.
I was exploring Gamla Stan early in the morning to photograph its European beauty. Feeling the need for caffeine and a pastry, I entered Cafe Schweizer. The charming display of the oranges, flowers, fur over chair backs warmed my heart. My appetite increased and I also requested the shrimp sandwich. The food is delicious and Cafe Schweizer is heart warming. Vhuntermassage LLC
We saw the shrimp sandwiches on the display fridge and could not skip it. It was totally worth stopping by. Fresh ingredients and good bread. We also tried our first dammsuggare there, which had a great rummy-fruity flavour. The place is very busy and not too spacious, but the food makes it worth squizing in :).
